Pocatello, Idaho - The Idaho State women's basketball team wrapped up the 2024-25 non-conference schedule with a razor-thin loss to Northern Illinois, 51-50, in overtime Friday afternoon.
The game started with a back and forth battle between the Huskies and the Bengals.
Halle Wright took control of the game early for ISU scoring eight points in the first four minutes of the game with two made three pointers and a layup. The first quarter ended with a slim 15-14 lead for the Huskies.
ISU was cold in the second quarter, outscored 19-6, and the Huskies led by as many as 16, 36-20, early in the third. ISU came back aided by NIU's 1/13 fourth-quarter shooting to tie it at 45 at the end of regulation.
Headed into overtime, ISU struggled to produce offensively, as they hit just 1/10 in OT with an exhausted
Maria Dias missing two close-in shots the last two seconds.
Halle Wright led ISU with a game-high 16 points, hitting two baskets the last 2:22 of regulation and blocking a Huskie layin with 0:02 left to send it to OT.
Sophia Covello added 11 with three treys.
The Bengal defense was a bright spot for the Orange and Black, 13 steals, seven by
Kacey Spink, and ISU forced 25 NIU turnovers. But ISU was outrebounded 53-47, with Carlson collecting nine and Spink eight.
ISU (5-6) gets two weeks off before starting Big Sky play at home, Jan. 2 vs. N. Arizona and Jan. 4 vs. N. Colorado.
