Pocatello, Idaho – The Bengals were back at Davis Field last night for their last non-conference game of the 2024 season. Slated to play against the formidable Seattle U Redhawks in what posed to be a hard contest, the Bengals were determined to make it a tough night for their competition.
Facing a team who beat Oregon State 4-1 (beat ISU 1-0) and only had one loss on the season, the Bengals showed up prepared to give them a run for their money. Within the first 5 minutes of play,
Camille Kollar sank a beautiful deep field ringer straight to the upper left corner for her first career goal in college.
"I was so excited. It was my first college goal. But after that it was time to get after it and win the game" stated Kollar on her goal. The next 40 minutes of play was a grind for the Bengals as they fended off the Redhawks attack, taking the 1-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, the Redhawks came out with something to prove, dominating time of possession right off the bat and garnering a few nice looks at an equalizer. Standout Freshman goalie
Trinity Hale made a beautiful save over the middle to fend off the strong attack but surrendered the game tying goal at the 57
th minute to the Seattle goal leader Caroline Penner.
When asked about Hale after the game, Coach Adam Nerio had nothing but praise for her. "She's been having just a stellar season. She's been really sharp".
With renewed strength and energy, the Redhawks were able to net another goal in the 78
th minute (Caroline Penner) to take the lead and what seemed to be the game winner.
Down but not out, the ferocious Bengals clawed their way back with a header assist from
Camille Kollar off a corner kick netted off the deflection by
Payton Reed. The statement goal made it 2-2 with only 3 minutes remaining, effectively ending the game in a tie.
"Overall, really good performance. That's a good opponent. That's a really strong team from Seattle, but our girls came out flying and sustained it. An overall really strong performance from the team" stated Coach Nerio after the match.
