POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State Bengals fell to the Eastern Washington Eagles 78-71 in overtime Thursday in Cheney, Washington. The Bengals fall to 7-12, 2-6 on the year.
After leading over 30 minutes of the game, the Eagles mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime on a buzzer beating shot and then winning the game with 16 points in overtime.
On the game, the Bengals shot 44.6 percent from the floor with 29 made fieldgoals and 40 percent from three-point range.
Piper Carlson led all-scorers with with a career-high 18 points on eight-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Three other Bengals scored in double-figures in the game. Sophia Covello scored 12 with two made three-point field goals.
The main difference in the game came at the free throw line. Idaho State was called for eight more fouls than the Eagles and EWU was sent to the free throw line for 23 attempts to the Bengals 12. EWU hit 91.3 percent of their free-throw attempts, 21-of-23.
The Bengals had 16 turnovers to the Eagles 17, but 7 of the Bengal turnovers came in the 4th quarter leading to 13 of the final 20 EWU points in the last 10 minutes of regulation.
The Bengals have now played in three overtime games in the 2024-25 season and are currently 0-3 in those contests. Thursday's game was the 2nd Big Sky Conference game to go to overtime this season.
The Bengal roadtrip continues this Saturday as Idaho State heads to Moscow, ID to take on the Idaho Vandals in the first of the 2025 King Spud rivalry games. Tip is set for 3:00 PM MT, the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and on KISU.org
