POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State Softball (12-3) kept the momentum rolling Friday with a 3-1 win over George Washington University in College Station at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Head Coach Andrew Rich remarked after the Bengals 2nd win of the day.
"What a huge day for this. Everyone knows who Texas Tech is and our players knew it would be a challenge and they stepped up to it and never backed down once. To fight back from a deficit in the late innings and then walk it off was a ton of fun to see. Having two Idaho natives kind of shine bright in Lizzy and Gracie made it that much sweeter."
"I was almost equally as proud of our team for showing up in game 2 and finding a way to grind out another win. Coming off the high of that first game and having to sit around for a game break, it was great to see us continue fighting and push through to finish the day strong against George Washington."
The Bengals gave up an early, 1st inning homerun before locking down the Revolutionaries for the remaining six innings. Bengal freshman pitcher Megan Meracle in the circle, after allowing the home run, only gave up two more hits for the remainder of the game as the Bengal defense held strong.
In the 4th inning, Camryn McDonald singled up the middle, she was followed by another base knock by Alyssa Yee. Ava Brown came up to bat and hit the third-consecutive single of the game, scoring McDonald and tying the game at 1-1.
Jaden Moore then came up to bat and smashed a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Yee and giving the Bengals the 2-1 lead.
George Washington would only have one more batter reach the entirety of the game.
In the Bottom of the 5th, Jenna Kearns drew a walk, she then turned on the jets and advanced to third on a single by Belle Navarrete. The next play, the Revolutionaries committed a throwing error, allowing Kearns to cross home safely and take a 3-1 lead in the game.
The Bengal defense took care of three flyouts in the top of the 7th and the Bengals closed out the 3-1 win.
Meracle had the complete game win, moving to 2-0 on the season. She struck out three batters and forced 16 flyouts, with three hits and one run allowed.
Idaho State finished day one of the Texas A&M Invitational 2-0 and are poised to take on Princeton tomorrow at 8:00 AM MT.
