New Mexico Gamenotes (To be Linked)

ISU vs UNM Overview

Saturday's contest marks the fourth all-time meeting between Idaho State and New Mexico, with the Lobos leading the series 3–0. All three matchups have been played in Albuquerque, most recently a 38–9 UNM victory in 1998.

While the Bengals have not played the Lobos many times in the team's history, New Mexico is led by a familiar foe to the Bengals. Head Coach Jason Eck took over the UNM program this summer, coming to the Lobos from the Idaho Vandals, whom he led to multiple FCS playoff spots. Along with Coach Eck, multiple Vandals made the switch to Albuquerque, including all-Big Sky Conference and All-American linebacker Jaxton Eck who had 8 tackles against Michigan this past weekend.

This will be the Bengals first trip to Albuquerque in 27 years, the city sits at 5,312 feet, about 850 feet higher in elevation than Pocatello.

Coaches Corner

Key Quotes

1. On the formula for an FBS upset:

"How do we win, hold them under 150 rushing yards, win the turnover battle by two, create explosives in the pass game, and run the ball for first downs and touchdowns."

2. On Jordan Cooke's injury status:

"Jordan Cooke played hurt last week, he had a procedure and he will be out for the foreseeable future. We love him and appreciate him, he will be back, I just cannot tell you when."

3. On the quarterback rotation:

"Both quarterbacks will play. Davis Harsin has done a great job from an operational standpoint, and we are comfortable with Jackson Sharman. I do not know who will take the first snap."

4. On what makes New Mexico's offense difficult to defend:

"New Mexico will make you play sideline to sideline with multiple personnels. If you stay in nickel vs 12, you get punched in the mouth, and if you stay in base vs light personnel, they can out-athlete you on the perimeter."

5. On the running back depth chart:

"Running back will be by committee. Carson Sudbury will probably start. You will see Tytan Mason, and we hope Brett Spencer continues to feel better and can take a larger role."
