The Idaho State men's tennis team is 1-9 for the season and come off a 7-0 sweep of the College of Idaho.  ISU captured its first victory of the season over the Yotes ending a 14-match losing streak dating back to last season.  The last time ISU swept an opponent was against South Dakota State in 2007 in Colorado Springs, Colo. at Air Force.

MEN'S STANDOUTS
Sophomore Nate Gross leads the Bengals with a 7-3 singles record.  He is 4-3 at the No. 4 spot and is an undefeated 1-0 at the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions.  Senior Danel Barrenechea leads ISU at the No. 1 position with a 1-6 record.  He also leads ISU with three doubles victories for the season.

BENGALS CAPTURE FIRST DOUBLES POINT
The Idaho State men's and women's teams captured their first doubles point of the season against the College of Idaho.  Both Bengal squads swept all three doubles matches.

WOMEN - The last time the women captured the doubles point was in April of 2010 against Portland State capturing all three contests.  ISU swept all three doubles contests twice last season overcoming Portland State at Portland and Weber State at home.  In 2009 the women did not win a singles double point but in 2008 the women won two doubles points against CSU Bakersfield and at Weber State.

MEN - The last time the men captured the doubles point was against Montana at Reed Gym in April of 2010 winning at the No. 1 and 3 spots.  ISU has one just one doubles point each season since 2007. The last time the men swept the doubles contests was in 2007 against South Dakota State.  In 2006 the men were on top of their doubles matches winning eight doubles points including three sweeps and posted a four-match doubles point streak.  This season alone the ISU men's team has had 10 different combinations of doubles teams.

WOMEN SUCCESSFUL AT TOP THREE SINGLES SPOTS
In the top three singles spots Idaho State holds a 7-5 (.583) record.  Porras holds down the No. 3 spot with a 3-1 record while Marsela and Moorhead post a 2-2 singles record at the No. 1 and 2 spots.  Three Bengals hold a .500 singles record with a 2-2 effort: Marsela, Moorhead and Fujiwara at the No. 4 position.  Porras is on a three-match win streak while Marsela and Moorhead are on a two-match win streak.

MEN'S SINGLES STANDOUT - GROSS
Sophomore Gross is ISU's best singles performer with a 7-3 record.  He has already overcome his freshman season's win total where he posted a 6-7 dual match record.  Gross holds a 4-3 at the No. 4 spot and is an undefeated 1-0 at the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions.  He is 5-2 in his last seven matches.  In his last three victories Gross has won 37 games and held his opponents to just 10 games for a .787 game win percentage.  He has won his last three matches in straight sets and is 1-2 in tiebreakers and 1-0 in ten-point tiebreakers for the third set.  He holds a 13-10 (.565) career singles record, the second best career record since the 2005 season.  Former player and coach Marc Pijoan holds the record with a 35-25 (.583) singles career record from 2005-08.

CAVALCANTI COMES INTO HIS OWN
Freshman Diego Cavalcanti, of Sao Paulo, Brazil,  posts the second most singles victories on the men's team with a 4-5 record.  He is on a three-match win streak including a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 upset over Utah's Matt Cowley marking ISU's first singles victory over Utah since the 2004 season.  A fighter Cavalcanti has played four ten-point tiebreakers (1-3) and two tiebreakers (0-2).

HOMECOMING IN VEGAS

It is a homecoming for Pate brothers Dakota and Colton who hail from Henderson, Nev. roughly 18 minutes or 15 miles from Las Vegas, Nev.  The ISU men return to Las Vegas as the Bengals played UNLV and UC Riverside earlier in the season.  The Bengal squad's trip to Las Vegas is nearly a homecoming for the women's team since ISU has played at the Bally's Hotel during spring break for the last two seasons and five of the last seven seasons (2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2004).
