POCATELLO, Idaho – Friday's tennis match between Idaho State (1-2) and Montana (1-0) couldn't have been any closer as the No. 6 match between freshman Andres Coello and Montana's Andreas Luczak went to three sets and was decided by just one point.
In doubles play, Idaho State won the No. 2 spot as senior

Nate Gross defeated Michael Facey and Ethan Vaughn.
In singles play, Idaho State won the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Junior
Charles Norman defeated Carl Kuschke at the No. 1 spot earning Norman's first singles victory of the season.
“Charles really stepped up today,” ISU Head Coach
Bobby Goeltz said. “He beat one of the best players in the conference from last season.”
Gross defeated Montana's Mikolaj Caruk in two close sets at the No. 2 spot, winning 7-6, 7-6.
Freshman Kryzyzstof Stempien also picked up a win in singles competition as he defeated Michael Facey at the No. 4 spot 6-3, 6-0.
Coello and Luczak battled back and forth at the No. 6 position. Luczak won the first set 6-1 and Coello took the seonc set 3-6. The final set ended in a 7-6 decision in favor of Luczak and sealing the victory for the Griz.
“We are learning important lessons now,” Goeltz said. “Hopefully the next time we meet these times we can benefit from it so that we can get the win when it really matters. If we make the right improvements we are within reach of winning some of these close matches and that is our goal.”
Idaho State faces Brigham Young next on Friday, Feb. 3 in Provo, Utah. The match is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
