LAS VEGAS, Nev.
– Idaho State men's tennis fell to No. 71 UNLV 7-0 Monday afternoon at the Las Vegas Tournament, marking the first loss for the program since January.

In doubles action, UNLV's Ace Matias and Bernard Schoeman defeated seniors Nate Gross and Charles Norman 8-6 at the No. 1 position. Sophomores Krzysztof Stempien and Andres Coello fell to Johannes Markel and Tamas Batyi 8-1 at the No. 2 position while freshmen Jamey Swiggart and Christian Marian lost to Gilad Berman and Carlos Di Laura 8-4 at the No. 3 spot. Stempien and Coello's loss is just the second for the duo this season.

In singles play, Swiggart's seven-match winning streak came to an end as he lost to Charlie Alvarado 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot.

Marian fell to Matias 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 position while Norman lost to Batyi 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles.

Stempien fell to Berman at the No. 3 position. He lost both sets 6-1.

Sophomore Austin Miller lost to Markel 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 position and Coello lost both sets at the No. 6 singles 6-0 to Di Laura.

“Nate and Charles played very well at the No. 1 doubles,” ISU Head Coach Bobby Goeltz said. “We got blown away in the first set in the singles but we started to fight back in the second set. It was just too little too late. However, I think the loss brought us back to reality a little bit and will help us to focus in the second half of the season.”

Idaho State will look to rebound with a match against Youngstown State Tuesday in the final day of the Las Vegas Tournament. ISU faces YSU at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
