ISU Tennis Defeats Youngstown State, Seattle

ISU men’s and women’s tennis completed play at the Las Vegas Tournament Tuesday

The Idaho State women earned their first win over Seattle in program history Tuesday in a 5-2 victory in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.
– Idaho State tennis closed play at the Las Vegas Tournament Tuesday with wins over Youngstown State and Seattle. ISU's men defeated YSU 6-1 while ISU's women routed Seattle 5-2. The women's win over Seattle marked ISU's first program win over the Redhawks as the Bengals had lost three matches to SU previously.
 
The Idaho State men gave up the doubles point to start their match against Youngstown State but came back to sweep the singles play and finish with a 6-1 win.
 
Freshman Christian Marian defeated Sebestian Hagn at the No. 1 position in three sets while senior Charles Norman won the No. 2 singles in three sets against Felipe Rosa.
 
Sophomore Krzysztof Stempien defeated Zeeshan Ismail at the No. 3 spot 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 and won the third set with a 7-3 tiebreaker score.
 
Freshman Jamey Swiggart defeated Rodrigo Campos 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles and sophomore Austin Miller won the No. 5 singles 6-2, 7-5 against Max Schmerin.
 
Sophomore Andres Coello defeated Victor Theorin at the No. 6 spot 6-2, 6-3.
 
Idaho State women's tennis also lost the doubles point in its match against Seattle but won five singles matches to win the contest.
 
Freshman Kasey Bacon defeated Anna Lambert 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 position while freshman Svenja Tegtmeier won the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-1 against Gabriella Weissmann.
 
Freshman Madelyn Weltzin defeated Corinne Wurden 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 position and freshman Laura Theus won the No. 5 singles in three sets against Sarah Lucas.
 
Freshman Wiebke Boeckman wrapped up the match for the Bengals with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position against Dayna Bennett.
 
Idaho State's women improve to 4-8 on the season while the men are now 8-3.
 
Both squads continue action on the road and take on Southern Utah Thursday, March 28. The ISU women also face Texas-Pan American Friday, March 29 and Northern Arizona Saturday, March 30. The men take on Northern Arizona Sunday, March 31.
