Former Bengal Soccer Standout Joins Coaching Staff

Beckstead joins the Big Sky Champs

POCATELLO, Idaho - When Idaho State assistant soccer coach Caleb Hussman moved on after the 2012 Big Sky championship season, Head Coach Allison Gibson didn't have to look far to fill his position.

Gibson named former ISU star, and older sister of current Bengal Allyson Stainbrook, Megan Beckstead to the position.

Beckstead, formally Megan Stainbrook, played from 2008 to 2011. She received an All-Big Sky honorable mention nod her junior year and was a four-year Big Sky All-Academic team member.

She was named team-captain her senior season.

Affectionately known as "Smalls" by Gibson, Beckstead was a player that set herself apart from the rest of the team.

"She brings a passion and enthusiasm to the game that very few can match," Gibson said.

She received her bachelor's degree in exercise science from ISU and has coached boys' and girls' youth soccer since graduation.

Beckstead has proven to Gibson that she has solid knowledge of the game.

"I watched her at our elite high school camp last week and I was absolutely astonished at how well she did," Gibson said. "The way she sees the game and her ability to communicate correct information to players will make an impact right away. Her presence will be a huge asset to our team and program."

Many of the current Bengals were teammates with Beckstead and will now look at her as a coach, including her younger sister. Gibson is not worried about the transition.

"I think she will expect the same from her as a coach that she did as a player," Gibson said. "She was very demanding as player. She always expected the most from everyone because that is what she always gave."
