ISU Travels to the Lone Star State to Face Texas Tech

The Bengals will face the Red Raiders in a battle of undefeated teams

The defending Big Sky champion Idaho State soccer team travels to Lubbock, Texas for the first road match of the 2013 season against Texas Tech. ISU defeated  Boise State 2-1(OT) and Idaho 2-0 to start the season 2-0.

The Bengals return seven starters from the 2012 season including Big Sky co-Offensive MVP junior Amanda Ellsworth, Big Sky Tournament MVP sophomore Sheridan Hapsic, All-Big Sky Second Team member senior Allyson Stainbrook, and Honorable Mention All-Big Sky honorees sophomore Vanessa Cabilan and junior Taylor McBride.

Reigning Big Sky Coach of the Year Allison Gibson leads the Bengals in her eighth season. Fourth year coach Stephanie Beall remains Gibson's right hand and former player Megan Beckstead joins the Bengal staff.

LAST MATCH: IDAHO STATE DEFEATS IDAHO 2-0
Jessica Sanchez and Amanda Ellsworth each scored first half goals and Sheridan Hapsic tallied her first shutout of 2013 to lead Idaho State to a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon over the University of Idaho and a weekend sweep of the Division I programs in Idaho.

The win moved the Bengals to a 2-0 record.

The match was won in the 39th minute of the first half when Ellsworth dropped a pass over the head of a defender to Sanchez waiting deep in the box. The Vandal goalkeeper left the goal to challenge Sanchez but the freshman sent a dribbling shot into the left corner of the goal to give ISU the 1-0 lead.

Just over two minutes later Lia Margolis centered a pass right in front of the goal where Ellsworth was waiting. She sent a header over the goalkeeper's hands for the second goal of the match.

ELLSWORTH, STAINBROOK SWEEP BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS
The Big Sky Conference announced its women's soccer players of the week for matches played from August 23 - August 26.  Idaho State swept the honors as forward Amanda Ellsworth was named the Offensive Player of the Week and defender Allyson Stainbrook earned the Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ellsworth, a junior from Roseville, Calif., scored two goals and added an assist to help lead Idaho State to a sweep of Boise State and Idaho.

Allyson Stainbrook, a senior from South Jordan, Utah, set the tone for a defense that gave up just one goal in 187 minutes of play over the weekend against Boise State and Idaho.  Stainbrook's presence on the back line was key to holding Boise State and Idaho to a combined 7 shots on goal.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH
The Red Raiders will meet ISU in a battle of unbeatens, TT is also 2-0 on the season. Tech tallied a 1-0 road win over New Mexico in their season opener. They then routed Colorado State 6-0 at home. 2013 is the first season for the CSU soccer program.

Texas Tech finished the 2012 season with a school record 16 wins. The Red Raiders completed the 23-game fall with a 16-6-1 record to also set a school record with a .695 winning percentage. The Raiders made their first NCAA appearance in school history in 2012, they lost to eventual Final Four team Florida State in the second round.

The Red Raiders play in the John Walker Soccer Complex. Built in 2009, the facility is one of the best home field advantages in the courntry. Entering the 2013 campaign, Texas Tech has posted a remarkable 28-9-1 record within the confines of its home facility. That stretch includes a school record 9-1 mark during the historic 2012 season.

They are coached by Tom Stone. The winningest coach in program history, he enters his seventh season with a 60-40-11 record at Texas Tech.
