PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Idaho State women's tennis team fell 6-1 at Grand Canyon Thursday afternoon at the GCU Tennis Facility in Phoenix, Ariz.
"Grand Canyon is a very good team," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We battled on every court and nearly picked up the doubles point. We need to learn to adapt to different game styles a little bit better, but it's been a great learning experience this spring break trip."
Idaho State (5-9) dropped the first match of doubles play as
Madison Fenske and
Melissa Coburn fell 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Megan Poe tied things up with a 6-3 win over Lana Rinaldi and Emilia Occhipinti at the No. 2 doubles position, but the Bengals were unable to close the win for doubles as Grand Canyon (8-5) won the final doubles match 7-6 (3-0) to take the doubles point.
In singles play, the Bengals picked up their lone win at No. 2 singles as
Huibre-Mare Botes bested Grand Canyon's Alexandra Petrzalkov in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Louise-Mare Botes also forced three sets but was unable to close out the win as she fell to Susan Baklini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 singles position.
Idaho State returns home to face conference foe Weber State March 31 at 12 p.m. in Pocatello.
