Women's Basketball Readies for Big Sky Leader Northern Colorado Saturday

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball team hosts league-leading Northern Colorado Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym.

BENGALS PREVIEW

· Idaho State picked up a 57-46 win over visiting North Dakota Thursday evening, dominating the Fighting Hawks inside with a 32-8 scoring advantage in the paint. Though UND collected 14 offensive rebounds (which ties for the second-most the Bengals have given up this season), the Bengals gave up just six second-chance points.

· Through 15 games, the Bengals are averaging 70.3 points per game shooting 43.6 percent from the floor, good for fourth in the Big Sky, and a conference-best 38.4 percent from three. ISU averages 40.9 rebounds per game with a conference-best +7.5 rebounding margin to go along with 7.1 steals per game and 14.9 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +9.9 scoring margin.

· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 14.5 points per game. Two other Bengals average at least 10 points: Grace Kenyon, 11.1 and Estefania Ors at 10.2. Sai Tapasa and Saylair Grandon are close behind at 9.8 and 9.3 per game respectively.

· Tapasa leads the rebounding effort with a 7.3 per game average while Kenyon averages 6.9 per contest.

· CAPITALIZING AT THE LINE: During nonconference play, the Bengals struggled at the line shooting just 64 percent from the charity stripe. It has been a point of emphasis for Idaho State in conference play as its team free throw percentage has risen 12 percent to 76 percent. During conference play, Idaho State has converted 57-of-75 attempts, and Jan. 11 against North Dakota, the Bengals went 18-of-23 to shoot 78 percent.

SCOUTING NORTHERN COLORADO

· The Bears are 12-4 on the season an lead the conference with a  4-1 mark in Big Sky play, and UNC is the only Big Sky team ranked in the mid-major top 25 poll at 14th. This season, the Bears picked up wins against No. 20/25 DePaul and LSU out of the SEC and only suffered three nonconference losses to: Quinnipiac, Fordham and Colorado State.

· UNC averages 69.1 points per game shooting 44 percent from the floor, good for second in the Big Sky. However, the Bears are dead last in the conference in rebounding at 31.7 per contest.

· Three players average double-figures for the Bears, led by Savannah Scott with 17.8 per contest. Savannah Smith adds 16.4 per game while Courtney Smith averages 13.6.  Kianna Williams leads the rebounding effort with 5.7 per game.

· UNC plays six deep consistently as six players average at least 20 minutes with four players averaging 33 or more.

· The Bears are led by Head Coach Kamie Ethridge who is in her fourth season.

· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho State leads the all-time series 19-7 with an 8-4 record in Pocatello. In the last meeting, Saylair Grandon hit a 12-foot jumper with 2.2 seconds remaining to lift ISU over UNC 60-59 in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
