POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team continues play on the road as it faces Northern Arizona Saturday, Jan. 6 at 5 p.m. MST at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· Idaho State fell to Southern Utah 76-70 Thursday, Jan. 4 at the America First Event Center in Cedar City, Utah to fall to 0-2 in Big Sky play. It's the second time in the last three seasons that the Bengals have started conference play 0-2; during the 2015-16 season, ISU fell to 0-4 in conference play before picking up its first win against Portland State with a 71-70 win on Jan. 16, 2016.
· Through 13 games, the Bengals are averaging 71.0 points per game shooting 43.9 percent from the floor, good for second in the Big Sky, and a conference-best 39.7 percent from three. ISU averages 41.9 rebounds per game with a conference-best +9.1 rebounding margin to go along with 7.2 steals per game and 15.3 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +9.0 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 14.0 points per game. Two other Bengals average at least 10 points:
Grace Kenyon, 11.0 and
Saylair Grandon at 10.0.
Sai Tapasa and
Estefania Ors are close behind at 9.9 and 9.8 per game respectively.
· Tapasa leads the rebounding effort with a 7.3 per game average while Kenyon averages 7.1 per contest.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 158-136 overall record (.537) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ARIZONA
· Northern Arizona is 4-10 overall on the season with a 1-2 mark in Big Sky play. One of the Lumberjacks most notable wins on the season was an 84-66 win over Arizona on Dec. 7. It was NAU's first win over a Pac-12 opponent in 22 years.
· The 'Jacks picked up their first conference win Thursday, Jan. 4 against visiting Weber State with a 76-75 come-from-behind win.
· Through 14 games, NAU averages 71.9 points while giving up an average of 75.5 points per game. The 'Jacks are shooting 41.3 percent from the floor and 32.5 percent from three, and they average 42.9 rebounds per game.
· Three players average double-figures for the Lumberjacks, led by Kenna McDavis at 16.2 per contest. Olivia Lucero adds 15.9 per game while Kaleigh Paplow chips in 11.9. McDavis and Paplow lead the charge on the glass, averaging 9.8 and 7.7 per game respectively.
· The 'Jacks are led by first-year Head Coach Loree Payne.
· SERIES REVIEW: The Bengals claim a 10-game advantage in the overall series, 38-28, but Northern Arizona leads the series in Flagstaff, 18-15. ISU has won the last two meetings and have claimed 9 of the last 11 meetings.
