POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State soccer embarks upon its final road trip of the 2018 season this week. The Bengals play a night game against Idaho at 8 p.m. Friday and face Eastern Washington at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Friday's game in Moscow, Idaho will be the first Battle of the Domes matchup of 2018 hosted by Idaho. The Bengals are 2-0 in Battle of the Domes events so far with volleyball defeating Idaho 3-1 and football winning 62-28 at home last week.
Idaho State Soccer
Idaho State dropped games against Montana and Northern Colorado at home last week. The Bengals are 2-11 this season with a 1-5 mark in conference play. They are still looking for their first win on the road.
Delaney Johnston leads the team with three goals and six points. She is the only ISU player with a .500-plus shot on goal percentage among those with double-digit shot totals.
Makena Bambei extended her team lead in shots with 37 and has the most shots on goal with 15.
Brooke Kortekaas and Johnston are the only other ISU players with 10 or more shots on goal.
Laule'a Akana-Phillips is closing in on 1,000 minutes in goal during her freshman campaign. She has 55 saves and has allowed 34 goals with a .618 save percentage and one shutout.
The Bengals produce 0.85 goals and 14.3 shots per game while allowing 3.31 goals and 20.1 shots per game.
Scouting Idaho
The Vandals are 6-6-2 this season with a 3-1-1 record in Big Sky play. Last week Idaho tied Montana 1-1 and defeated Eastern Washington with a 1-0 shutout. Their lone conference loss came against Northern Colorado.
Myah Merino and Bridget Daley each have three goals to lead the 10 goal scorers from Idaho. Six players have reached double-digit shot counts led by Kaysie Bruce and Daley with 18 apiece.
Makayla Presgrave has played all but one half between the posts with 61 saves and 16 goals allowed. The keeper has a .792 save percentage and five shutouts.
The Vandals secure 1.14 goals and 9.6 shots per game while allowing 1.14 goals and 12.8 shots per game to opponents.
Jeremy Clevenger is in his fifth season with Idaho and has a 26-43-13 overall record.
Idaho holds the advantage in the series matchup. ISU is 6-9-4 against UI and has never won a game in Moscow, Idaho with three ties and four losses.
Scouting Eastern Washington
Eastern Washington entered the season as the conference favorite after winning its second-consecutive title last season. However, the Eagles are 5-6-3 with a 1-3-1 record in conference play with just three games remaining. They lost 3-1 to Northern Colorado and were shutout by Idaho at home last week.
Eight EWU players have netted a goal with Jenny Chavez and Brooke Dunbar leading the team with two each. Allison Raniere has scored just one goal despite ranking second in the conference in shots per game with 2.93; Bambei is the only Big Sky player with a higher average.
Kelsee Winston is the leader in goal with 50 saves and 10 goals allowed while facing 121 shots in 1,160 minutes of play. She has an .833 save percentage with five clean sheets this season. She is in the top-60 nationwide for goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.
The Eagles generate 0.86 goals and 15.6 shots per game while yielding 1.07 goals and 10.4 shots per game.
EWU is led by Chad Bodnar who has accumulated a 54-30-11 overall record. The Bengals are 12-9-3 against the Eagles all-time with a 4-7 record on the road.
