POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team returns home for its final regular-season games beginning with Montana State Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. Idaho State Athletics will be giving away orange pom poms Wednesday evening to Bengals fans while supplies last.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· ISU's four-game win streak was snapped Saturday afternoon with a 66-64 loss at Eastern Washington. The Bengals went ice cold from the field in the final minutes, and EWU snuck past with a late fourth-quarter rally.
· Through 27 games, the Bengals are averaging 70.4 points per game shooting 45.3 percent from the floor and 37.2 percent from three to lead the conference in both. ISU averages 37.5 rebounds per game with a +5.0 rebounding margin to go along with 7.4 steals per game and 14.9 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +8.7 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 13.6 points per game.
Grace Kenyon, and
Estefania Ors also average double-figures for the Bengals at 12.7and 10.7 points per game, respectively.
· Kenyon leads the rebounding effort with 6.7 rebounds per contest while
Sai Tapasa adds 6.1.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 168-140 overall record (.545) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING MONTANA STATE
· Through 27 games, the Bobcats carry a 14-13 overall record with a 8-8 mark in conference play, good for eighth place in the Big Sky. MSU carries a 3-9 mark on the road this season with its last road win coming at Southern Utah on Jan. 27.
· The Bobcats have won one of its last six contests with a 77-74 victory over Eastern Washington on Feb. 17 after starting conference play 7-3.
· The Bobcats average 67.0 points per game shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and 36.6 percent from long range. MSU also averages 37.2 rebounds per game to go along with 15.7 assists per game which leads the Big Sky.
· Montana State has four players averaging double-figures, led by Hannah Caudill at 12.1 points per contest. Delany Junkermier adds 11.2, Madeline Smith 11.0 and Oliana Squires 10.1 points per contest. Smith leads the rebounding effort at 7.8 per contest, good for seventh in the Big Sky.
· The Bobcats are led by Head Coach Tricia Binford who is in her 13th season with the program.
· SERIES REVIEW: Montana State leads the overall series 44-35, but the Bengals claim a 21-14 edge in Pocatello. In the last meeting, MSU defeated Idaho State 62-56 in the Big Sky Conference Championship game in Reno on March 11, 2017.
