POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team heads to Grand Forks, N.D. in search of its first-ever win at North Dakota in the Betty Englestad Sioux Center.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· Idaho State suffered its worst loss of the season in the form of a 75-52 defeat at Northern Colorado on Thursday afternoon. The Bengals gave up 36 points in the second quarter, which allowed the Bears to build a sizable 22-point lead at the half. The Bengals were unable to close the gap and fell 75-52.
· Through 22 games, the Bengals are averaging 70.5 points per game shooting 44.2 percent from the floor and 36.1 percent from three to rank second in the conference in both categories. ISU averages 38.9 rebounds per game with a +6.2 rebounding margin to go along with 7.4 steals per game and 14.5 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +8.9 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 13.3 points per game.
Grace Kenyon,
Estefania Ors and
Saylair Grandon also average double-figures for the Bengals at 11.9, 10.6 and 10.5 points per game, respectively.
· Kenyon leads the rebounding effort with 6.8 rebounds per contest while
Sai Tapasa adds 6.6. Grandon is the only other Bengal to average at least five rebound at 5.0 per game.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 164-139 overall record (.541) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
· North Dakota knocked Weber State out of first place Thursday evening with an 80-67 win over the Wildcats. UND carries an 11-12 overall record with a 4-8 mark in conference play, but the Fighting Hawks continue to be strong at home with a 9-2 mark at the Betty Englestad Sioux Center.
· Through 23 games, UND averages 67.6 points per contest shooting 39.2 percent from the floor and 32.5 percent from long range. The Fighting Hawks average 41.5 rebounds per contest to lead the conference, along with 12.2 assists and 5.7 steals per game. UND also ranks third in the conference in blocked shots with 4.2 per contest.
· Three players average double figures for UND, led by Lexi Klabo at 17.4 points per game. Fallyn Freije adds 14.0 and Jill Morton contributes 11.0 per game. Klabo and Freije also lead the rebounding effort at 9.1 and 8.2 respectively to rank first and fourth in the conference.
· The Fighting Hawks are led by Head Coach Travis Brewster who is in his sixth season at the helm of the program.
· SERIES REVIEW: North Dakota leads the all-time series 8-4, and the Bengals are winless in Grand Forks with an 0-5 record. In the last meeting, ISU defeated UND 57-46 in Pocatello.
