POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State women's basketball team outscored Portland State 25-7 in the fourth quarter to beat Portland State 80-55 on Thursday night in Reed Gym.
Dora Goles scored 22 points on 8-15 shooting. She was 5-7 from the three-point line.
Diaba Konate had 14 points and five assists while
Estefania Ors had 11 points and five assists and five rebounds.
The Bengal defense forced 28 Viking turnovers and out rebounded PSU 34-32. Idaho State had 13 steals, led by three from Goles.
ISU shot 48.5 percent from the field and made nine of 15 3-pointers. PSU shot 41.7 percent.
The first half was back and forth as there was six lead changes and four ties. Neither team led by more than five points. Portland State led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter and 31-30 at halftime.
Portland State led 33-32 early in the third quarter. The Bengals then went on a 13-6 run to take a 46-38 lead with 4:44 left in the third quarter after a jumper by Konate. Portland State quickly cut the Bengal lead to 46-44 but ISU then scored six straight points to extend the lead back to eight at 52-44 with 2:06 left in the quarter.
Later in the quarter, Konate hit 1-2 free throws with 40 seconds left to lead 55-46. The Bengals went into the final quarter with a 55-48 lead.
Idaho State scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to take 60-48 lead after a Goles 3-pointer a minute in and later in the quarter Goles hit another 3 to give Idaho State a 72-52 lead with 4:38 left in the game. The 25 point margin of victory was the largest lead of the game for the Bengals.
The two teams play again Saturday at 12 p.m. in Reed Gym.
