Bengals Set for Big Sky Showdown Against NAU

 POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball continues its conference campaign this week as they host the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 2 PM (MST) and Saturday, Jan. 9 at 12 PM (MST).

This week features a matchup of the No.1 (Bengals) and No. 2 (Lumberjacks) for control of first place in the conference standings.

All-Time Series Results vs. Northern Arizona

Idaho State leads the all-time series 42-30. ISU has won six of the last 10 matchups. Seton Sobolewski is 17-6 all-time versus the Lumberjacks.

The two teams last met in Flagstaff on Feb. 6, 2020, a hard-fought game going in favor of the Bengals for a 79-76 victory. In the game, the Bengals erased a 24-point deficit in the second quarter on their way to their eventual victory.

The Bengals shot 46 percent from field-goal range and 50 percent from three while holding NAU to 38 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three. ISU scored 17 points off of 11 NAU turnovers. The Lumberjacks out-rebounded Idaho State 42-35.

Diaba Konate led four Bengals in double figures with a career-high 32-point game. Dora Goles followed with 12 points and Callie Bourne and Ellie Smith each scoring 10. Konate and Bourne led with five boards each.

This season, the Lumberjacks are 5-3 (3-1, Big Sky Conference) after splitting their series against the University of Idaho this past week. NAU was picked to finish third in both the Coaches and Media Polls this offseason.

Last Game Recap: vs Weber State

The Bengals extended their unbeaten Big Sky record this week taking down Weber State 77-60 on Dec. 31 and 72-53 on Jan. 2.

Idaho State shot 47 percent from the field in the victory while holding WSU to just 33 percent shooting. Diaba Konate led the Bengals with a season-high 18 points on 8-10 shooting. Dora Goles followed with 16 points and Ellie Smith finished with 12 points

Callie Bourne led the Bengals on the boards with eight. Smith grabbed seven, and Tomekia Whitman tied her season-high with five rebounds in the first half.

Just five minutes into the game, the Bengals took two double-digit leads at 13-3 and 15-5. They extended their lead to 12 at 17-5 before a 7-0 Wildcat run brought the score back to 17-12 with one minute left in the quarter. Back-to-back jumpers from Moore and Oltrogge gave the Bengals a 21-14 lead heading into the second quarter.

ISU went up 24-17 after a three-pointer from Estefania Ors kicked off the second quarter. ISU took an 11 point lead, 28-17, after back-to-back layups from Goles and Konate. An 8-2 WSU run brought the spread back to five, 30-25, with two minutes left in the quarter. A three-pointer from Goles stopped the Wildcat momentum as the Bengals went on a 5-0 run of their own to bring it back to a double-digit lead, 35-25, heading into halftime.

Weber State started the third quarter on an 8-2 run, cutting the game to four at 37-33. ISU answered back with a 17-5 run, including a three-pointer from Oltrogge to give ISU a 54-38 lead to end the quarter.

Idaho State outscored Weber State 18-17 in the final quarter. The Bengals closed out the game and earned a 72-53 win.
