POCATELLO, Idaho – Following a two-game skid, the Idaho State Bengals have a chance to bounce back this weekend against the Sacramento State Hornets at home in the ICCU Dome.

 

Idaho State is coming off of a heartbreaker at Northern Arizona that saw the Bengals come up just short In a 30-26 loss to the Lumberjacks. The Hornets are coming to Pocatello off of a 2OT thriller with Weber State where the Hornets held off a furious Wildcat comeback attempt for the win.

 

THE SERIES - This is the 23rd meeting of the Bengals and Hornets and Sacramento State holds a 14-8 series lead. In Pocatello, The Bengals lead the series 7-5 and this is the first time for the Hornets in Pocatello since 2021. Sacramento State has taken four out of the last six contests. The Bengals last win over the Hornets came at home in 2016, a 42-34 win that saw a 91 yard rushing touchdown from Michael Dean to open up a 21-0 lead over the Hornets.

 

• OFFENSIVE LINE STEPPING UP - Despite shifting positions in the offensive line over

the entirety of the season, the Bengal offensive line has stepped up, only allowing 2

sacks in the the previous five games combined. Saturday will mark the 9th straight game with a change to the offensive line personnel.

 

• Final Drive Woes - The Bengals have had consecutive games with the opportunity to

score on the final drive in the final minute and win the game and have not been able to

get over the hill in either contest.

 

• PASSING OFFENSE ADJUSTMENTS - The Idaho State Bengals are ranked 7th in the

nation in passing offense averaging 288.13 yards per game. The Bengals got back on

track against Cal Poly with 425 passing yards after two slower passing games against

Montana State and Southern Utah. The Bengals are led by Jeff Weimer who leads the

Conference in Receiving yards and 2nd in receiving yards per game.

 

• FIRST DOWN OFFENSE - The Bengal offense is ranked 3rd in the country in first down

offense with 171 on the season. Showing the offensive power of the conference, ISU is

one of 4 Big Sky teams in the top-10 in the nation.

• Drop the Boot - The Bengal Special Teamers have been on fire this season, earning four player of the week awards between Gabe Panikowski and Ross Bolger. Panikowski is one of the top kickers in the FCS this season having converted 12-of-12 field goals, the only perfect field goal kicker remaining in the conference. Panikoski's long of 55 yards against NAU is the 2nd furthest in the FCS this season and ties for 4th longest all-time in the Idaho State Record Book.
