Bengals Bounce Back, Dominate Lady Griz, 66-46

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Women's Basketball team took to their home court tonight against the University of Montana. The Bengals were looking to avenge their earlier season loss to the Lady Griz in Missoula.
 
In the first two quarters, both teams battled in a heated 5-point game with Alyse Aby leading the Bengals by two three-pointers while Aurora Elder followed with two impressive layups to maintain the team's momentum. In the final minutes of the second quarter, the Lady Griz would respond by reducing the lead by two. Idaho State headed into the locker room with a 32-30 advantage.
 
The third quarter started with both teams fighting for control where Montana would tie the game 32-32 at the 7-minute mark. Just two minutes later, at 5:45, the Lady Griz would take the lead by two points with the Bengals struggling to find the bottom of the net to begin the third quarter, coming out of the halftime break 0-7 shooting from the floor. However, in the final two minutes of the quarter, the Bengals powered ahead with a 4-point lead at 40-36, capped by a perfect layup from Tasia Jordan with just four seconds left on the clock.
 
Alyse Aby opened the fourth quarter with a layup at the 9:40 mark, followed closely by a three-pointer at 7:25. Idaho State then went on a dominant 21-2 run, building a 17-point lead by the 5:40 mark in the 4th. The Bengals would completely suffocate the Lady Griz in the final stretch, securing a clean 20-point victory, 66-46.
 
Tasia Jordan led the game in scoring for Idaho State, finishing with 14 points, on 5-11 shooting from the field, 1-2 from deep, and four rebounds. Alyse Aby put up 13 points on 5-11 shooting from the field, and five rebounds. Piper Carlson put up 11 points, on 5-6 shooting from the field, nine rebounds, and leading the team with four steals. Sophia Covello totaled five points, one rebound, and four assists. Kacey Spink would be the final Bengal in starter with one point, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
 
Maria Dias would play off the bench for ISU, ending her night with eight points on a 4-9 shooting from the field, four rebounds, and one steal. Another player, Ruby Sweeney-Spitzeck, totaled eight points on a 3-6. Aurora Elder would contribute with six points and three rebounds in nine minutes of action.
 
The Bengals finished the game shooting 42.4 percent from the field, and 46.6 percent from deep, finishing just 7-15 from three-point land. Idaho State ended the game with 43 rebounds, 13 assists, and 8 steals.
 
University of Montana finished the game shooting 29.4 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from three-point territory, going 5-21. The Lady Griz would finish with 7 assists, 27 rebounds, and 9 steals.

Following tonight's game, Idaho State will face Montana State this Saturday, February 15th at 2 PM. In January, the Bengals fell 52-94 against the Bobcats and look to turn things around this month. Fans can watch live on ESPN+ or listen along on KISU.
