Bengals Win Eighth Straight, Defeat Weber State, 6–1

CHUBBUCK, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight consecutive matches with a 6–1 victory over Weber State on Sunday morning at Capell Park, improving to 8–4 overall and 2–0 in Big Sky play. The win also marked the first team point allowed by the Bengals since Feb. 15, ending a stretch of three straight 7–0 sweeps.

Doubles

Idaho State battled through a tight doubles point, finding rhythm late on each court to secure the early advantage.

Head coach Gretchen Maloney noted the team's ability to adjust after a slow start in doubles.

"I liked how in doubles we started a little off, but they figured it out. They played smart and clean and found a way to win."

Singles

The Bengals carried that momentum into singles, winning five of six matches behind steady, disciplined play across the lineup.

  • No. 1 Singles: Millie Day (ISU) def. Jessica Hill (WSU), 6–1, 6–1
  • No. 2 Singles: Stefanya Shalakhova (ISU) def. P. Aleksandrowicz (WSU), 6–4, 7–5
  • No. 3 Singles: Asem Shoybek (ISU) def. Maggie Song (WSU), 6–2, 6–4
  • No. 4 Singles: Emmy Richards (ISU) fell to Nataly ValdiviaRojas (WSU), 6–4, 3–6, 0-1 (6–10)
  • No. 5 Singles: Sydney Morris (ISU) def. Savannah Johnson (WSU), 6–3, 6–4
  • No. 6 Singles: Veronika Zarovna (ISU) def. Naomi Johnson (WSU), 6–3, 7–6 (7–2)

Maloney praised the team's grit and ability to respond in key moments throughout singles play.

"I was really proud of the determination and the grit today. Some players had a few hiccups in the middle of sets, but they figured out a way to win."

She also highlighted Millie Day's performance at the top of the lineup.

"Millie just took care of business. She had a plan, stuck with it, and was willing to hit one more ball. She makes opponents play that extra shot and that's where she's so effective."
