Orem, UT — Idaho State Track and Field traveled down to Orem this weekend to compete in the first regular season meet of the outdoor season, the Utah Valley Invitational. The Bengals looked to set some impressive early-season marks, as 5 more all-time performances were recorded.
Women's Highlights
The women's triple jump took center stage for the field events, as Natalia Alvarez Trujilo jumped a massive PR with a mark of 12.34 (40' 6.0"), which puts her #5 all-time in ISU outdoor history. Continuing in the field,
Mya Hutchings led the squad in the high jump, with a mark of 1.60m (5' 3") to earn 3rd place overall.
Josie Settle led the teams in the short hurdles and long jump, with marks of 5.71m (18' 9.0") and 14.36s for the 100mH. Lastly,
Jordyn Kearn added led the squad in the throws with marks in the shot put of 13.30m (43' 7.75") and discus of 45.71 (150' 0"), both of which are inching closer to the top-10 list.
On the track, the sprint team showed out with standout performances from the 4x100m relay team of
Christina NGandu Ye,
Chelsea Uba,
Kaylin Caruso and
Daphne Cordioli, with that squad running 47.13 to tie for #10 all-time in school history. In addition to this,
Christina NGandu Ye ran a #9 all-time mark in the 100m (12.08s) in her first collegiate outdoor campaign. On the distance side,
Kamber Scott won the 5000m in a time of 17:59, and looking to improve upon that this season as the time is close to a top-10 mark. Lastly
Meg Murdock recorded a massive PB in the 400m, running 57.47 in her first outdoor season meet.
Men's Highlights
On the track, the men's sprints once again gave it their all and came away with a blazing time in the 4x100m relay (41.07). The team consisted of
Corbridge Bastian,
Jason Monroe,
Jacob Webster and
Khutsisa Rampete and now moves themselves to #6 in school history. On the individual events of the track,
Jason Monroe led the Bengals in the 100m (10.65) and
Alvaro Olmedo led the team in the 200m (21.83) as only a freshman.
Braxton Hurst and
Dalton Rasmussen again went 1-2 in the 400m as their friendly rivalry continues (48.67 to 48.95), and they look to lower these times even more as the season progresses. On the distance side,
Chase Markunas led the team in the 1500m with a time of 4:07.94 in his first race at this distance. Lastly, McKoy Richardson won the 400mH in a time of 54.14 over teammate
Tegon Lords.
The throws on the men's side featured another record book performance, as Chris Lupkes threw over 10 meters further than his previous personal best, moving up to #4 with a mark of 60.88m (199' 9").
Axel Tirado-Sanchez showed out in the discus with a mark of 56.39m (185' 0"), which placed him 2nd overall at the meet.
Jacob Webster led the team in the long jump with a mark of 6.77m (22' 2.5") Lastly,
Kaiden Lee led the team in the high jump, clearing 1.98m (6' 6") and setting a good opening mark for the season.
The Utah Valley Invitational provided the team with a starting point for the rest of the outdoor campaign, and with it brough multiple top-10 performances in addition to a multitude of PRs.The Bengals will now have two weeks rest before traveling back to Salt Lake/Ogden for the Utah Spring Classic (April 10-11).
