NCAA West Regional Qualifiers Announced, Bengals Send Four Athletes to Fayetteville

Pocatello, ID – The post season continues for a few select members of the Idaho State Track and Field Team as the NCAA First Round Qualifiers were announced.

The first qualifier to make it is Seth Babbel for the 10,000m, as he re-broke his own school record this year over this distance running 28:50 at the Stanford Invitational. He also moved up to number 4 all-time in the 5000m and secured an All-Conference honors at the Big Sky Conference Championships with a 3rd place finish in the 10,000m.

The next Bengal to qualify is Chris Lupkes in the hammer throw. After having a breakout sophomore season and breaking the school record in the event, he secured himself a Big Sky Championship and a berth to the NCAA first round.

Axel Tirado-Sanchez was the last male qualifier on the team, with huge marks in both shot put and discus, but ultimately opted to focus on the discus as his regional event. He won yet another Big Sky title in the event and is ranked #14 in the country currently, which if he can replicate at regionals should give him his first ever berth to the NCAA Championships.

Lastly, Ashley Reeck made the qualification list for the 3000m steeple chase, where she holds the school record after shattering her PB at the Bryan Clay Invitational. After transferring from Western Washington and moving up to D1, she looks to make another National Championship appearance and represent the Bengals in the event.

The first round will be held on the 27th of May til the 30th and Seth will contest the 10,000m and Chris with Hammer on the 27th, while Axel competes in the discus qualifying on the 29th and Ashley wraps up the weekend on the 30th with the steeple.
