Fayetteville, AR - The Bengals concluded the post season at the NCAA West Regional this week, where four of Idaho State's athletes looked to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene in the coming weeks.
Axel Tirado-Sanchez was one of 14 Big Sky Athletes to secure a berth to the national tournament, with a massive throw in the preliminary discus round.
The first athletes to contest the meet for the Bengals were Chris Lupkes and
Seth Babbel. Chris in his first NCAA Regional contested the hammer throw and placed 25th overall with a mark of 62.44m (204-10"). Seth followed this up later in the day with a finish of 38th place in the 10000m, in a time of 29:58.28.
The next day of competition for Idaho State was on the 2nd day of the Men's events, where
Axel Tirado-Sanchez had a massive day in the discus ring, as he threw an enormous mark of 58.69m (192'-6") to convincling punch his ticket to Eugene with a 6th place finish. After becoming the Big Sky Champion in the event once again, he looks to add even more hardware to his impressive resume in two weeks time.
Lastly,
Ashley Reeck rounded out the competitors for the team, as she contested the 3000m steeplechase, as she placed 42nd in a time of 11:03.11.
All eyes now look towards Eugene Oregon, as the NCAA D1 Championships are fast approaching (June 10-14) and Axel will represent the Bengals in the discus on Friday June 12th at 3:10pm MT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
