POCATELLO, Idaho — Idaho State football opened fall camp Wednesday with a helmets-only practice at the ICCU Dome, the first of 17 practices and a scrimmage scheduled before the Bengals open the season Aug. 29 against Virginia Military Institute.
Wednesday's session focused on fundamentals ahead of the team's first practice in shells Friday, with pads following in Week 2.
Quarterback Jordan Cooke said the mood at the start of camp was upbeat after a summer of individual work.
"It's exciting being back out here after a hard working summer, and just seeing the guys' excitement and preparation for the season," Cooke said. "We're looking forward to it."
Defensive lineman Beau Jaques said the depth across the roster has raised the level of competition in camp.
"I think we got a lot of talent and a lot of depth ... that ability to continue to push each other and help the guys and just elevate everyone in the room," Jaques said. "The level of competition we have here, I don't think we've had anywhere else."

Stats Perform Preseason
The Bengals were represented on the Stats Perform preseason All-American list heading into the 2026 season.
Offensive lineman Stryker Rashid earned preseason first-team honors. Running Back Dason Brooks and Wide Receiver Chedon James were named Third-Team preseason All-Americans.

Walter Payton Award Watchlist
Going into the 2026 season, Idaho State running back Dason Brooks has been named to the Walter Payton Award watchlist. The last Bengal to get a nod on the list was Chedon James in 2023 who was named a finalist at the end of the season.
