BENGALS IN ACTION THIS WEEK
The Idaho State women's team hosts its Big Sky Conference opener against Eastern Washington on Saturday, February 19 at 9 a.m. at Reed Gym. It is a conference opening contest for Eastern Washington as well.
ABOUT BENGAL WOMEN
The Idaho State women's tennis team is 0-2 for the season but have improved from a 7-0 sweep against Utah State to a 5-2 loss at Weber State. The Bengals have captured two singles victories and one doubles victory against the Wildcats. Junior transfer
Laura Porras captured the first sweep of the season. She teamed with Katharina Marslea to defeat Annika Karlsen and Michelle Warwick 8-1 at the No. 2 spot. Junior
Risa Fujiwara posted her first singles win of the season defeating Warwick 7-5, 6-4, (10-7) at the No. 4 spot.
WOMEN CAPTURE DOUBLES VICTORY
Junior transfers Porras and
Katharina Marsela easily defeated Weber State's Annika Karlsen and Michelle Warwick 8-1 at the No. 2 spot for Idaho State's first doubles win of the season. However the Bengals fell 8-4 at the No. 1 and 8-0 at the No. 3 spot to start the match down 0-1.
MOORHEAD CLIMBS CAREER RECORD
After one year at Idaho State
Rilee Moorhead is already tied for the most singles wins (10) and doubles wins (9) in a season victories since 2007. She also is tied for the second best career-high singles victories and is just three victories away from overcoming Sophie Dang who holds the record at 12.
ABOUT EASTERN WASHINGTON
Eastern Washington is 4-4 for the season and will play its Big Sky opener against the Bengals. Judy Liening leads the Eagles with a 5-3 record playing through the No. 1-5 spots. Kelsey Knight has posted a 2-1 record at the No. 1 spot. Caitlin Bampton is the Eagle's best doubles performer with a 5-3 record holding a 3-1 record with Chelsea Patton.
SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE EAGLES
Eastern Washington leads the series 6-1 over the last eight years. Eastern Washington was swept 7-0 on the road. In the last meeting Moorhead and Dang captured an 8-5 win over Marie Demerath and Judy Liening at the No. 2 spot.
Risa Fujiwara showed promise in her contest but was overcome 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 by Ryann Warner at the No. 6 singles spot. ISU's last win was a 6-1 decision at Eastern Washington in 2004.
