Women’s Tennis Defeats Mustangs 6-1

Idaho State women’s tennis won its second straight match Sunday

Idaho State women's tennis defeated Western New Mexico Sunday 6-1.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.
– Idaho State women's tennis earned its second straight win and third of the season with a 6-1 victory over Western New Mexico at the Las Vegas Tournament Sunday.
 
Idaho State won the doubles point as freshmen Wiebke Boeckmann and Svenja Tagtmeier won the No. 2 doubles 8-2 and freshmen Kasey Bacon and Madelyn Weltzin won the No. 3 position 8-3. Bacon and Weltzin have now won three straight doubles matches and improve to 3-2 on the season.
 
In singles action, sophomore Marian Tangarife defeated Ganna Tiurina 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at the No. 1 position while Bacon won the No. 2 singles 5-7, 7-5, 7-5. Bacon and Tangarife are now both 4-7 on the season so far.
 
Weltzin won the No. 3 singles over Claudia Osuna, winning both sets 6-2 and junior Zamira Vasquez notched her second straight singles win at the No. 5 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Davida Aragon.
 
Boeckmann earned her second singles win of the season with a victory over Doris Berberic at the No. 6 spot. Boeckmann defeated Berberic 6-2 in both sets.
 
Idaho State improves to 3-8 on the year with the win over Western New Mexico and has now won two straight.
 
ISU plays its final match of the Las Vegas Tournament Tuesday, March 26 at 9 a.m. against Seattle University.
