CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington swept Idaho State tennis Friday in Big Sky Conference play.
The Eastern women defeated Idaho State 4-3. The EWU men also defeated ISU 4-3.
Men's match
Eastern Washington 4, Idaho State 3
The Bengal men won the doubles point when
Bjorn Scheepbouwer and
Krzysztof Stempien defeated Eduardo Bringolf and Wacil Bendjelti 8-6 at No. 2 and
Cody Miller and
Josh Goodwin defeated Rendell Burghart and Luke Ness 8-6 at No. 3 to earn the 2-1 win.
Stempien and Goodwin followed that up with singles wins.
At No. 2 Stempien defeated Bringold 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 Goodwin defeated Bendjelti 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The Eagles won matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 and the contest came down to the No. 5 match.
Scheepbouwer battled hard but lost 6-1, 5-7, 7-6.
The Bengals are now 1-5 on the season and 1-3 in Big Sky play.
Women's match
Eastern Washington 4, Idaho State 3
The Eagles set the tone with a 2-1 win in the doubles point but Idaho State battled to the end and lost on the last match of the day.
The Bengals claimed three singles matches. At No. 4 ISU's
Madelyn Weltzin defeated Katrina Domingo 6-4, 6-4. At No. 5
Wiebke Boeckmann defeated Malieva Hedberg 6-1, 6-2 and at No. 6
Zamira Vasquez defeated Alyssa Nagai 6-1, 6-1.
The Eagles won the No. 1 and No. 3 matches leaving the No. 2 match to decide a winner.
EWU's Dani Young defeated
Kasey Bacon 7-6 in the first set but Bacon dominated the second set 6-0. In the third set Young again found her groove and defeated Bacon 6-4.
The loss drops the Bengal women to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in Big Sky play.
Both Bengal teams travel to Sacramento State to play the Hornets on March, 16.
