POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 59 Boise State Monday afternoon at the Juniper Hills Country Club in Pocatello, Idaho. Although the final score was lopsided in favor of visiting Boise State, the Bengals tested the Broncos until the final match point.

The day began with a big switch-up for Idaho State (0-5) in doubles play, as Head Coach Mark Rodel made the decision to split the Edin brothers' regular doubles paring and opt for an entirely new lineup. Juniors William Edin and Bjorn Scheepbouwer represented the Bengals at the No. 1 doubles position, juniors Sebastian Edin and Josh Goodwin at the No. 2 doubles position and freshman Francis Fillipovich with junior Haseeb Khan at the No. 3 spot.

Edin/Scheepbouwer dropped a 7-5 decision to BSU's Lewis Roskilly and Abe Hewko while Filipovich/Khan fell 6-2 to Danny Moyer and Greg Wischer to give the doubles point to Boise state (6-4), but Rodel couldn't have been more proud of his team's response to the changes.

"I had to have total buy-in for this change to be effective," Rodel said. "The Edin brothers have played together so long, and I had to make the tough choice to split them. The best part about it is that they bought into it, and that's what I'm proud of."

In singles play, ISU claimed the first set in each of the first three positions, with Sebastian Edin winning 6-3 in the first at the No. 1 position, William Edin a 6-1 win at No. 2 and Scheepbouwer a 6-4 decision in the first set at No. 3. At each of the first three positions, Boise State won the second set to force a third and eventually overtook the Bengals in the final set to claim the singles victory.

"We went three sets in the first three positions, which is huge," Rodel said. "We just have to keep working at it."

The No. 4 position was a highlight for ISU today, as junior Josh Goodwin defeated BSU's Tillman Haynes in two sets, 6-1, 7-6 for his first individual win this season and ISU's lone win of the day.

"Josh stepped up and came through," Rodel said. "He had played a really good match and he closed it off nicely. His win was obviously a stand out today."

Idaho State is back in action Feb. 19 as it hosts Lewis Clark State College at 3 p.m. at Reed Gym.
