POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State women's tennis team won its third match of the season and opened Big Sky Conference play on Friday with a victory, beating Eastern Washington, 5-2 in Cheney, Wash. After dropping the doubles point, the Bengals came back to win five of the six singles matches to earn the victory.
"It was an awesome battle today," Idaho State coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We lost the doubles point but we were so determined in singles to get the win. We had some really close three-setters and the girls dug deep to get the win. It was a total team effort."
Kasey Bacon won her match at No. 1 singles, beating
Janaya Smith, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5). After ISU dropped a match at No. 2 singles, the Bengals
Wiebke Boeckmann defeated Rachel Swindell 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
Nonie Mulcahy Alexandersen won her match at No. 4 singles, beating Dani Young, 7-6 (6), 6-1.
Laura Theus beat Erin Blessing 6-3, 6-3 and
Taylor Cole beat Eastern Washington's
Faye Worrall, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4).
The Bengals continue Big Sky play at Idaho on Saturday, March 5 at 12 p.m.
