BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Idaho State women's tennis team dropped its first conference match of the season as Montana State bested the Bengals 5-2 at the BATC in Bozeman, Mont. The Bengals claimed the doubles point but earned just one singles win to give the Bobcats the win.
"Doubles play was strong today," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "In singles we didn't play clean enough and failed to make adjustments. Montana State is really aggressive, and we just didn't have enough defense today."
Montana State (9-3, 5-0 BSC) took the first doubles match with a 6-1 win over
Melissa Coburn and
Megan Poe, but
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Madison Fenske tied doubles play with a 6-4 win over Wanda Holopainen and Shelby Cerkovnik at the No. 3 doubles position.
Louise-Mare Botes and
Huibre-Mare Botes closed the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the No. 1 doubles position.
Idaho State (4-6, 3-1 BSC) struggled in singles play at the Bobcats took five-of-six singles matches.
Louise-Mare Botes was the only Bengal to win in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over MSU's Naomi Holopainen.
"
Louise-Mare Botes was on fire again for us," Maloney said. "She played very consistent and smart in singles."
Idaho State is back in action Saturday, March 18 as it travels to Sacramento, Calif. to take on the Hornets of Sacramento State at 4 p.m. MST.
