POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team returns home this week to host Northern Arizona Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym.
BENGAL PREVIEW
· Idaho State fell at Weber State 84-73 Saturday afternoon to fall to an even 4-4 in Big Sky play. The loss marked the first time since the 2008-09 season that Idaho State has been swept by the Wildcats.
Saylair Grandon scored a season-high 21 points in the loss, while
Brooke Blair added 19.
· Through 19 games, the Bengals are averaging 71.5 points per game shooting 44.4 percent from the floor to lead the Big Sky, and a conference-best 37.3 percent from three. ISU averages 39.4 rebounds per game with a +6.3 rebounding margin to go along with 7.3 steals per game and 14.9 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +9.2 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 14.7 points per game.
Grace Kenyon,
Estefania Ors and
Saylair Grandon also average double-figures for the Bengals at 12.1, 10.6 and 10.3 points per game, respectively.
· Kenyon leads the rebounding effort with 7.1 rebounds per contest while
Sai Tapasa adds 6.9.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 162-138 overall record (.540) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ARIZONA
· Northern Arizona holds a 4-16 overall record with a 1-8 mark in conference play. The 'Jacks lone Big Sky win came against Weber State on Jan. 4 in Flagstaff as they defeated the Wildcats 76-75.
· NAU averages 67.8 points per game shooting 39 percent from the floor and 30.3 percent from long range. The 'Jacks average 41.5 rebounds per game, 15.8 turnovers per contest and 5.4 steals per game.
· Three players average double-figures for Northern Arizona, led by Kenna McDavis at 15.6 points per game. Olivia Lucero adds 15.5 points while Kaleigh Paplow chips in 10.9.
· McDavis leads the rebounding effort with an even 9.0 rebounds per game to rank second in the Big Sky. Paplow adds 7.4 rebounds per game for the 'Jacks.
· Northern Arizona is led by first-year Head Coach Loree Payne.
· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho State leads the all-time series 39-28, and the Bengals have won eight of the last 10 meetings. In the last meeting, Idaho State defeated Northern Arizona 75-55 in Flagstaff.
