POCATELLO, Idaho – Five more athletes have signed with the Idaho State Bengals for the 2019 Track and Field season as announced by the Idaho State Track and Field coaching staff.
Zack Ramos
Ramos is a multi-sport senior from Caldwell High School, in Caldwell, Idaho. Ramos will compete in the throwing events for the Bengals.
In 2017 for Caldwell High School, Ramos placed second in the discus throw at the IDHSAA Track and Field Championships. Entering the 2018 season, Ramos is ranked first place in the discus throw in the state of Idaho.
"Zack is a kid from Idaho which is great," said Head Coach Hillary Merkley." It's great to have local talent who is talented as he is. The opportunity for local talent as good as he is doesn't come along very often, and we are excited to add him."
Ramos has personal best distances of 163' 7" in the discus, and 49' 0.5" in the shot put.
Madi Kenyon
Kenyon is a senior at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown, Colo. She will participate in multiple distance categories running for the Bengals. She will also run cross country for the orange and black.
"She is pretty talented," said Head Coach Hillary Merkley. "We met her a few years ago and she's a good student and tough worker. She is a good strong runner and solid on the distance side, she can help us in all three sports. She is a big add."
Kenyon has received all-conference honors in cross country and track and field in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. She holds the school record for the 5K in cross country. In track and field, she holds the record for the 3200 with a time of 11:11 and the 1600 with a time of 5:10. She also holds the records in the 800 and the 4X800.
"She is going to be a huge impact right away," said Head Cross Country Coach Nate Houle. "She has always been a big supporter of ours and has been bought in from the beginning. All her PRs are from a mile high and she is a very good runner. I expect her to be someone who will impact her performance and the team from her first year here."
Kapri Orton
Orton is a multi-sport senior at Panguitch High School in Panguitch, Utah. She will be competing in various events for the Bengals.
"She does a little bit of everything," said Head Coach Hillary Merkley. "She is really strong in the high jump but will do some multi events. She's a hard worker, her best jump is a junior year mark and she did it in a small town. She has got a lot impact."
Orton has won state titles in multiple events including; the 100m hurdles, the 300m hurdles, the 200m and the high jump. In 2017 Orton broke the 1A state record in the high jump with a height of 5' 6". This led to her fifth consecutive title.
Miah Allison
Allison is a student at Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, Wash. She will compete in the hurdles for the orange and black.
In 2017 Allison qualified for the 300m hurdles competition at the Washington state 4A championships. She was also selected for the all-conference second team in the 300m hurdles. In 2018 she was selected as part of the all-conference second team in the 300m hurdles.
"She is really excited about Idaho State and the 300 hurdles," said Head Coach Hillary Merkley. "This is an area where she can have an impact. We are hoping she can come in and help us out in some other areas. She has run a solid time as a junior and has a year to get better for the event."
Allison's personal record in the 300 hurdles is a time of 45.69. She also holds personal best of 59.44 in the 400m.
Mya Mckown
Mya is a student at Pleasant Grove High School in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She will compete in distance categories for the Bengals and will also run cross country in 2019.
"She had a great year in cross country," said Head Coach Hillary Merkley. "She is one of our higher priorities for cross country. We need strong girls and she fills a gap."
In 2017 she was part of the 6A state championship cross country team. In 2018 she finished fourth overall in state competition. Mya was named to the first all team state cross country team. that year, she also received the Doug Owens award. When a teammate fell in competition, Mya stopped and picked up her teammate after she had been tripped making sure they both finished the race. The award was granted to student athletes who went above and beyond competition to embody the sports they represented.
"She is really cool with the trajectory she's on," said Head Cross Country Coach Nate Houle. "Her results from the fall are extremely impressive. I have kept an eye on her all summer and she kept racing well this season. I expect her track times to drop in the spring and I have a lot of faith in her in the direction she's headed. She has great enthusiasm and is excited to be here."
