POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team hosts Montana Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the ICCU Court in Reed Gym in its final regular-season game of the season. Friday's game will feature Senior Night festivities honoring
Brooke Blair in addition to an orange t-shirt giveaway to fans, while supplies last.
BENGAL PREVIEW
· Montana State stole one from the Bengals on Wednesday evening, erasing a four-point ISU lead in the final 27 seconds to win 61-60. According to the Big Sky, Idaho State eliminated the hopes of a first-round bye in the Big Sky Conference Tournament next week in Reno, Nev.
· Through 28 games, the Bengals are averaging 70.0 points per game shooting 45.4 percent from the floor to lead the Big Sky and 36.5 percent from three. ISU averages 37.3 rebounds per game with a +5.0 rebounding margin to go along with 7.4 steals per game and 14.7 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +8.4 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 13.4 points per game.
Grace Kenyon,
Estefania Ors and
Saylair Grandon also average double-figures for the Bengals at 12.7, 10.5 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.
· Kenyon leads the rebounding effort with 6.5 rebounds per contest while
Sai Tapasa adds 6.0.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 168-141 overall record (.544) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING MONTANA
· Through 28 games, the Griz carry a 13-15 overall record with a 9-8 mark in conference play in a two-way tie for seventh. UM carries a 3-7 mark on the road this season with its last road win coming at Northern Arizona on Jan. 27.
· Montana has won one of its last six games with an 87-63 win at Montana State on Feb. 24.
· The Griz average 63.2 points per game shooting 39.5 percent from the floor and 27.5 percent from long range. Montana averages 39.7 rebounds per game to rank third in the Big Sky, to go along with 13.5 assists with just 13.5 turnovers per game.
· Montana is led in scoring by McKenzie Johnston at 11.5 points per contest while Jace Henderson leads the rebounding effort with 7.3 per game.
· The Griz are led by Head Coach Shannon Schweyen who is in her second season as head coach but 26th year on the women's basketball staff.
· SERIES REVIEW: Montana leads the all-time series 71-10, but Idaho State has won two of the last three meetings. UM also claims the edge in Pocatello with a 29-6 record in Reed Gym. In the last meeting, ISU defeated Montana 63-53 in the first round of the BSC tournament in Reno, Nev. on March 6, 2017.
SEEDING SCENARIOS
With ISU's Wednesday night loss, the Bengals sit at 10-7 in league play in a two-way tie with Portland State for fifth place. Idaho State wins the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Vikings, and according to the Big Sky Conference, Idaho State can finish no higher than fifth but no lower than sixth.
1,000 CAREER POINTS
Grace Kenyon became the 18th player in ISU history to surpass 1,000 career points Feb. 28 against Montana State. Kenyon recorded 14 points in the loss which gave her 1,001 career points. The last player to surpass the 1,000 point plateau was Lindsey Reed during her senior season in 2013-14; Reed finished with 1,492 career points.
