I love being out in nature, whether it is just in my backyard or out on a hike in the mountains. This is one reason why I love golf. I go out on the course and find it relaxing to smell the fresh air and listen to the sounds of nature. Golf is something that has brought a lot of joy into my life. I have also gained a lot of confidence in myself through golf. Golf has taught me many life lessons. The two that I am the most grateful for are integrity and learning to never give up. At the end of the day, I know that I gave it an honest effort.
Being able to have integrity in life helps to build quality relationships with others. One of my favorite quotes comes from Babe Ruth and it says, "It's hard to beat a person who never gives up". Golf is not like other sports because it takes a lot mentally. A basketball game lasts about an hour but 18 holes of golf lasts at least four hours. You have to be mentally tough and not give up in those hours no matter what.
In my childhood, I had older brothers who participated in sports that helped me have a love for sports. I always loved going into the backyard with my brothers and my dad and just playing catch. I always looked up to my brothers because they were such good athletes and worked very hard. My dad pushed us to be successful in whatever we did. He always went the extra mile for us to be successful in sports. My dad would go out to the golf course and shovel the snow off of the greens so that I could practice my putting. I am so very grateful for my parents and the support that they have given me.
As I was growing up, I always loved playing sports but I was never really a superstar at any of them until golf came into the picture. I was about 14 years old when I discovered the game of golf. I knew the moment that I picked up a club that I was going to love it. I would get out of school and go straight to the golf course until it was dark. During the winter months, there was a barn near my house that I used to practice in. My dad set up a net inside the barn that I could hit into and I would spend many hours in there practicing for my high school season which took place in the spring. I graduated high school having three individual 2A state championships behind me.
As I have started my freshman year as a Bengal, I am very excited about what the future holds. I know that my coaches have goals set in mind for us as a team and I look forward to seeing us accomplish those goals. I am determined to reach the goals that I have personally set for myself and I am proud to be a Bengal.
