Golf Set to Open Fall Season

| By:

POCATELLO, Idaho – Despite not having a fall season during the 2020-2021 academic year and only getting to compete in four total tournaments, the Idaho State University golf team was still able to break both team and individual records. Now the team looks to build on the success of last year and carry that same momentum into their upcoming competition.

Head Coach Dallen Atkins released the official team schedule for the 2021-2022 year, which consists of nine tournaments. The golf team competes at five tournaments in the fall followed by four tournaments in the spring.

Returning to this year's squad is Tya Seth, who holds the record for the all-time lowest scoring average in school history. Also returning to the team is Tyler Erikson, Lindsey Lloyd, Ainsley Snyder and Mackenzie Robins who contributed to recording the lowest round in program history of 299, the first time the Bengals had ever scored below 300.

"I am eager to see what these girls will do this fall," said Head Coach Dallen Atkins. "We had a handful of girls compete in some Idaho and Utah open events, and they were able to place better than a lot of other Big Sky players from other schools. I am hoping they can corral that positive momentum and continue with that this fall season. They have proven to themselves that they are not the bottom of the pack anymore. That bodes well for us mentally going into this fall."

The golf team opens its 2021-2022 campaign on Monday, September 13 at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic in Springville, Utah. Hosted by Utah Valley University, the tournament is played over two days with 56 holes. The field will play 36 holes on Monday followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday, September 14. Start times are set for 7:45 a.m. MT on Monday and 8 a.m. MT on Tuesday. Fans can keep up with live scoring on GolfStat.com.

"I am sure there will be some first tournament jitters for some, but hopefully we get those out of the way early and settle in to play some good golf," said Head Coach Dallen Atkins. "We are headed to a golf course that none of us have ever played before, so hopefully we can get a good practice round in and draw up a good game plan for how we want to attack this golf course and where our scoring opportunities are."

Following the Hobble Creek Fall Classic, the Bengals hit the road for four straight weeks. September 20-21 the Bengals compete in Eden, Utah at the WSU Kelsey Chugg Invitational. On September 27-28, the golf team competes at the MSU Battle at Old Works in Anaconda, Montana. The Bengals then tee off in Missoula, Montana at the MU Match Play Event October 5-6.

ISU concludes its fall season in Dupont, Washington at the Seattle U Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational. This competition takes place October 11-12.

The Bengals see action again in March as their spring competition season begins. Idaho State teesoff at the Lady Thunderbird Invitational hosted in Saint George, Utah, March 10-12, followed by the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nevada, March 14-15. The Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona will then take place March 19-20. The Bengals conclude their regular season April 11-12 at the Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear, Arizona.

The 2021-2022 women's golf Big Sky Conference Championships is held in Scottsdale, Arizona, April 18-20.
