Tirado-Sanchez Breaks Discus Record as Bengals Wrap Up Successful Meet Weekend

POCATELLO, Idaho -  Idaho State Track and Field returns home after wrapping up a successful weekend in California. The Bengals competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Inter-Collegiate, and the Beach Invitational.

 " We got to see a lot of Big Sky schools this weekend and some of the best teams in the country this weekend," Said Track and Field Director Hillary Merkley " We had a number of top 10 performances so the weekend was a success overall. We also have a few more things we need to fine tune next week at BYU so we are looking forward to being close to home again." 

Bengal Freshman Axel Tirado highlighted the Bengal field athletes in the discus. - After three-consecutive meets with improved marks Sanchez threw  56.54m (185'6") making it his new personal best and passing Trevor Jensen's 2019 mark of (182'7") for the new all-time best in ISU history.

On Friday, the third day of the Bengals road trip, Molly Olsen finished with a time of 4:31.32 in the 1500m. This time earned Olsen the 8th fastest in Idaho State history. Olsen also earned 4th this weekend for Idaho State all time leaders in the 3000 steeplechase with a finish of 10:30.83. 

Zack Ramos also had a successful weekend in the discus competition. Ramos moved up to third on the ISU all-time list in the discus this weekend when he threw for 53.64m (176' 0"). 

In the long jump, Treyshon Malone continued to improve this weekend. Malone leapt a mark of 7.56m (24' 9 ¾") in Friday's competition. At the Beach Invitational he improved with a mark of  7.64m (25' 0 ¾ ). 

Mike Shukilov competed in the long jump. The Bengal freshman had a mark of 2.06m (6'9") making it his new personal best.  

The Women's pole vault competition saw Lindsey Jones-Sagendorf and Elliotte Jones both jump marks that keep them in the top-10 of the Big Sky performance list. Jones-Sagendorf finished the competition jumping just below her PR at 12' 4"  and Elliotte Stockham just off her best at 11' 10".


Looking Ahead

The Bengals will compete in Provo,Utah April (22) - April (23) at the BYU Robison Invitational as they make the push towards the 2022 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Davis Field in Pocatello, Idaho May 11-14.
