Tirado-Sanchez, Mederios Earn First Big Sky POTW Honors of Season for T&F

POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State Track and Field student-athlets Axel Tirado Sanchez and Kaila Mederios earned the first Big Sky Player of the Week awards for the Bengals after their performances at the 2025 Idaho State Winter Open in the ICCU Dome this past Saturday. Both of the Bengal field athletes, had a fantastic meet, breaking Idaho State team records and making their mark on the Big Sky and NCAA early in the indoor season. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Axel Tirado-Sanchez, Idaho State (Gr., Emmett, Idaho)
With the second-best men's weight throw in the Big Sky this season, Idaho State's Axel Tirado-Sanchez has been named Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The mark of 19.20m (63-0) broke the Idaho State indoor school record and ranks 39^th in the NCAA overall.    

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Kaila Mederios, Idaho State (Sr., Boise, Idaho)
Recording the second-best women's long jump in the Big Sky so far this season, Idaho State's Kaila Mederios has been named Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Her mark of 6.01m (19-8.75) was a school record for the Bengals and ranks her 20^th in the NCAA for the event.
