Pocatello, Idaho - After traveling up to one of the northernmost states in the U.S., The Idaho State Cross Country teams are turning it around and heading south to Lubbock, Texas, to compete in the Mountain Region Championship Meet on Friday, November 10.
The Meet, hosted by Texas Tech University, will feature the best from the 20+ teams in the Mountain Region, the most sporadic of the 9 D1 conferences in terms of member schools. The Bengals will cover upwards of 1,100 miles heading down to Lubbock, third-most among the member schools behind Montana and Montana State. There will be many familiar faces at the meet as well, with former foes Utah Valley, Southern Utah, Colorado, and five other Big Sky teams all competing.
The Bengal Men are coming off of a 7th-place team finish at the Big Sky championship in a blanket of snow draped over Missoula. Sophomore Seth Babbel continued a consistent second season in the Orange and Black as the top finisher for the men's team, with the rest of the squad finishing in a tight split just behind him. A young team with one lone senior in Eric Christen, the men have had many moments to be proud of this year, leaving much to be excited about after this season concludes
The Women finished in 9th place as a team, headlined by Juniors Cassandra Vasquez and Sulette Ferreyra Serna who, along with Senior Madi Kenyon, have established themselves as leaders for the Bengals on and off the track, undoubtedly leaving a lasting impression on the six freshmen and one sophomore on a squad that is young in its own right. With lots of youth on both teams, Head Coach Nate Houle has expressed his pride in the teams he has now as well as what he believes they can be in the future.
Racing in their final Cross Country meet as a Bengal are Presley Timmons, Madi Kenyon, and Eric Christen
Also featured in the Men's team are Christen, Seth Babbel, Gavin Pollock, Brandon Walker, Cade Smith, Clark Baker, and Sunny Gunn
Running for the women, along with Kenyon and Timmons, will be Cassandra Vasquez, Sulette Ferreyra Serna, Olivia Kendall, Allison Lemons, and Annabell Gossell
