Women's Golf Continues Spring Season at Pizza Hut Invitational

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Bengal women's Golf team continued its 2024 campaign this weekend at the  2024 Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University at Sunbrook golf club in St. George Utah.

From March 7-9 the Bengals battled 13 other division one schools on the course including conference foes including Montana, Portland State and Weber State.

The Bengals come back to Pocatello with a T12 finish and a final team score of 947. Over the first 36 holes, the Bengals shot a 329, 23 strokes better than the Bengals first tournament of the sping season.

"Overall there was a lot of improvement for the team getting out on the grass for our second tournament," said Head Women's Golf Coach Todd Loveland. "Our chipping and putting continues to get better and better.  There are a tremendous amount of hazards at Sunbrook which led to a few holes that got us from a score standpoint but overall our course strategy was improved from our first event.  I'm really looking forward to our next tournament in Texas!"

The weekend started with  a team-low round of 77 from Lexi Wilson.

In round one, Bengal senior Lindsey James had the first Eagle on a par four for the Bengals this spring, closing down the 364 yard par 4, 4th hole in two strokes.

In round two, Wilson and James both posted 74s to lead the Bengals.

Closing out the final day of play Ainsley Snyder shot a team-low 77

The Bengals had 36 under par holes this weekend with one eagle and 35 birdies.

Up next, Idaho State heads to the Lonestar State on April 1 to take on the Lamar Cardinal Challenge in Beaumont, Texas.
