POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State track and field opens the 2017 outdoor season with the Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis and UNLV Spring Invitational this weekend in Las Vegas. The three-day meet will feature multi-events on Thursday and Friday with all open events scheduled Saturday.
Idaho State, Southern Utah and Northern Colorado will represent the Big Sky Conference. UNLV's Myron Partridge Stadium will also host Brigham Young, Dixie State, Fresno State, Illinois, San Jose State, UC Davis, Utah Valley, Cerritos College and other teams this weekend.
The UNLV Spring Invitational is the first of eight meets scheduled for the Bengals prior to the 2017 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Sacramento State University May 10-13.
Indoor all-conference performers

Bailey Woodbury will be among the ISU athletes competing. Rejoining the roster are seniors
Deante Gaines and
Kyle Searle.
Gaines was named the Most Valuable Athlete at the 2016 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships after claiming the triple jump title and placing third in the high jump and long jump.
Searle clinched his first title in the men's heptathlon during the 2016 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with a 5,099 point finish.
Thursday, March 16
The first day of competition opens with the decathlon's 100m dash at 11 a.m. and the heptathlon's 100m hurdles at noon. The men will compete in the first five decathlon events while the women complete the first four events of the heptathlon.
Friday, March 17
The remaining five events in the decathlon are slated for Friday. The women will compete in the final three events of the heptathlon. The decathlon's 110m hurdles start at 10 a.m. and the heptathlon resumes with the long jump at 11 a.m.
The men's hammer throw starts at 3 p.m. with the women's hammer throw to follow.
Saturday, March 18
The men and women will race a combined 10,000m event at 7:30 a.m. to open day three of competition. The oval hosts 23 track events on Saturday concluding with the men's 1,600m relay at 3:30 p.m.
Action begins inside the track at 9 a.m. with the women's shot put. Fourteen field events are scheduled with the men's javelin wrapping up the action at 2:30 p.m. Â
Indoor Season
The Idaho State men's track and field team is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The women's team finished seventh at the conference championships.

Justin Franz was Idaho State's only conference champion with a win in the men's shot put.
