Pocatello, ID — Idaho State Track and Field traveled back home this weekend to host their final regular season meet of the year, the Mountain States Games. The Bengals made final adjustments leading up to conference in two weeks, as six athletes recorded new top-10 all time marks.
Women's Highlights
The women's shot put took center stage for the field events, as
Jordyn Kearn threw a massive PR with a mark of 14.34 (47' 0.75"), which puts her #4 all time in ISU indoor history. Continuing in the field,
Daphne Cordioli led the squad in the long jump, with a PR mark of 5.52m (18' 1.5").
Natalia Alvarez Trujillo once again led the triple jump, this time coming just inches off of her personal best with a jump of 39' 8.75". Lastly,
Abby Behrman added to the list of PRs at this meet, as she launched the weight 16.81m (55' 2") in the weight throw, inching closer to the top-10 list.
On the track, the sprint team showed considerable improvement from the beginning of the season, with
Kaylin Caruso recording PRs in the 60m and 60mH (7.92 & 8.84) and both her and
Chelsea Uba made it to 60mH finals. Junior
Ysanne Peart also PR'd in a big way in the 400m, as she ran a team-leading 57.09. The women now look towards conference, as they hope to field a complete team with the improvements in distance, sprints and field events.
Men's Highlights
On the track,
Sunny Gunn yet again gave ISU the performance of the week, as he traveled to Seattle to compete at the Husky Classic in the mile, and ran a new school record time of 4:02.28, which breaks the 41 year-old record. This is now Sunny's first school record, in addition to his top-10 marks in the 3000 and 5000m. The male sprints for the Bengals also showed out, as they went 1-2-3 in the 200m, and
Jacob Webster recorded a #4 time in ISU history with a 21.36 clocking. On the 60m side, Junior
Alex Conner moved up another place, as he ran 6.73s, coming within 0.04s of the school record.
Khutsisa Rampete also improved his 60m time, running 6.83 and taking sole possession of #5 all-time.
The throws on the men's side continued to show improvement as Chris Lupkes threw a few inches further than his PR, moving up to #4 with a mark of 18.40m (60' 4.5"). Sophomore
Jackson Wilkey won the meet in high jump, with a new PR of 2.09m (6' 10.25") Lastly, multi-athlete
Tom Stoelken improved upon his heptathlon total (4972), and PR'd in the 60mH (8.30) and 1000m (3:01.12).
The Mountain States Games concluded with multiple top-10 performances in addition to a multitude of PRs leading into the post season. The Bengals, now done with the indoor regular season, will host the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships at the ICCU Dome in two weeks time. (Feb 26-28)
