Spokane, WA — Idaho State Track and Field traveled to The Podium in Spokane this weekend to compete at the Riverfront Invitational. The Bengals faced fierce competition, as six other D1 teams attended, including Big Sky competitor Eastern Washington.

The women's field events shined in the Evergreen State, as
Natalia Alvarez Trujillo stole the show with a #4 performance in Idaho State indoor triple jump history, with a massive mark of 12.15m (39' 10.5"). In the high jump, Sophomore
Audrey Sampsen took second overall with a clearance of 1.63m (5' 4.25"). In the throws,
Megan Moore and
Abby Behrman led the team in the shot put and weight throw respectively, with marks of 14.61m (47' 11.25") and 16.36m (53' 8.25").
On the track, the Bengal distance squad made the most out of the trip down to sea level, as three more top-10 marks were recorded, with a multitude of PRs from the team.
Kamber Scott showed her versatility, as she recorded back-to-back #8 marks in ISU history in the mile and 3000m. She recorded a new PB in the mile with a time of 4:57.67 and immediately doubled back to run under 10 minutes (9:59.79) in the 3000m. On the sprint side of the track, the last event of the meet proved to be the most memorable, as the relay squad consisting of
Meg Murdock,
Oaklie Hebdon,
Christina NGandu Ye, and
Ysanne Peart tied the mark for the 10th fastest 4x400m run, with a time of 3:50.47.
Men's Highlights
On the track,
Sunny Gunn notched himself another all-time performance, this time in the 5000m, as he ran a time of 14:47.93 over the distance to set himself as 10th all-time. This is now his third top-10 mark this year and he looks to improve upon his 3000m and mile marks before the indoor season has concluded.
Gavin Pollock also recorded two PRs in the mile (4:10.33) and 3000m (8:48.09), showing resilience over the double. On the sprint side,
Alex Conner once again led the team in the 60m, as he barely missed finals with a 6.89s mark.
The throws on the men's side continued to show incredible depth, as
Axel Tirado-Sanchez and Chris Lupkes led the team in the weight throw, with Axel winning the event outright. Migail Van Huysteen led the pole vault for the team, recording a mark that tied his PB from earlier this year at 4.80m (15' 9"). Lastly, multi-athlete
Tom Stoelken made it to finals in the 60mH, with a new PB of 8.37s, which he will use to improve his heptathalon scoring during Big Sky Conference in three weeks.
The Riverfront Invitational gave the Bengals one last chance to travel to face regional competition during this indoor season, with many athletes making the most of competing against teams they haven't seen all year. The Bengals will now finish this season at home in the regular season this coming weekend for the Mountain State Games (Feb 13-14) at the ICCU Dome, followed by Big Sky Conference Championships two weeks after that.
