Pocatello, ID — Idaho State Track and Field returned to the ICCU Dome this weekend to host the Stacy Dragila Open and provide a mid-season checkpoint. Lining up against rival Big Sky team in Montana State created close competitions, as six all-time marks were recorded over the weekend, including two school records.
Women's Highlights
The women's throws once again took the center stage, as
Megan Moore led the Bengals in the shot put. Megan doubled back from her record setting performance last week, to record an even bigger mark this weekend. She hurled a massive 15.24m (50') throw which broke her record by over a foot, and continued to show that the ISU throws program is in top form. Freshman
Abby Behrman led the Bengals in the weight throw, with a mark of 16.05m (52' 8"), which was a career best in the event.
On the track,
Chelsea Uba has a very strong showing over the shorter distances, as she recorded two, top-10 marks in the 60m (7.65) and 60mH (8.69), putting herself #4 and #6 all time respectively.
Kaylin Caruso also followed up with a PR in the 60mH in 8.88, bringing herself closer to a top-10 mark. Freshman Christina Ngandu Ye led the team with a runner-up finish in the 200m in 25.43s, which is a new PB for her.
Ysanne Peart led the 400m for the team with a time of 57.82, while
Kaitlyn Blackham won the mile with a collegiate PR of 5:09.27.
Men's Highlights
The throws on the men's side continued to reign supreme, as in the weight throw alone, two more top-10 marks were made. Chris Lupkes threw himself up three places on Friday, with a mark of 18.35m (60' 2.5"), which makes him 4th all time in school history, and less than an inch from #3. Then
Axel Tirado-Sanchez continued to show his dominance, as for the fourth consecutive meet he broke his own school record, this time recording a 20.62m (67' 8") throw, which also puts him #4 all-time in Big Sky Conference History.
On the track, Alex Connor continued last week's strong performance in the sprints, as he just beat out his brother's time in the 60m, running 6.77s to have sole possession of the #3 spot in school history.
Tegon Lords also improved upon his previous #7 time, with a 8.14s performance in the 60mH, coming just 0.01s away from #6.
Braxton Hurst and
Dalton Rasmussen both dipped under the 49 second mark in the 400m, running 48.20 and 48.86. The men's 4x400m team also posted their best time of the season, running 3:18.23 to win the event.
Lastly, in the high jump,
Kaiden Lee and
Jackson Wilkey both jumped 2.08m (6' 9.75") to both come within 0.02m of a top-10 performance.
Porter Sutton also recorded a massive PR in the triple jump, as he flew to a mark of 14.55m (47' 9").
The Stacy Dragila Open provided a point of reflection as the Bengals head into the final stretch of the indoor season, and allowed the entire team to see where they stacked up. Idaho State will travel to Spokane next week for the Riverfront Invitational and will be back at the ICCU Dome in two weeks time for the the Mountain State Games (Feb 13-14)
