POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State's
Luisa Stroppel won her flight in the women's triple jump as ISU competed in the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. April 20-21.
Beach Invitational - Women
Stroppel, a freshman from Konstanz, Germany, jumped a personal best 39' 1.25" to finish 16th overall. Stroppel's jump not only puts her fifth in the Big Sky standings but also ninth on the ISU All-Time Top 10.
"This was a great time for Louisa to have a big jump. She's worked hard and been patient amidst some big setbacks in her training this year," said Head Coach
Hillary Merkley. "She is a great student and an outstanding human, she has brought a lot to our team in many areas this year."
In the pole vault, freshman
Jessica Swannack cleared 12' 3" to finish sixth, her season best jump has her ranked seventh in the Big Sky. Junior
Hannah Bartz finished 13th in the long jump with a leap of 18' 10.75", putting her into a tie for sixth in the Big Sky. Freshmen
Ginger Nelson and
Sierra Ambrosek both cleared 5' 5" in the high jump.
Junior
Ashley Sondag ran a personal best in the 5,000m coming in second place with a time of 17:33.55. Sophomore
Rachel McGovern came in sixth in the same race at 18:03.82. Junior
Shayla Henderson moved up the Big Sky rankings to fifth with her 400m hurdle time of 1:01.98.
Three Bengals had personal bests in the hammer throw led by Junior
Taylor Clark with her toss of 169' 8". Sophomore
Madison Cicierski threw for 163' 1" and fellow sophomore
Kylie Greenwell had a mark of 160' 7". Clark now sits fifth on the ISU All-Time top ten followed by Cicierski at eighth, Greenwell sits at 11th all-time at ISU.
Men
Bengal Junior
Trevor Jensen threw for a personal best in the hammer of 182' 11". This mark puts Jensen fourth on the ISU All-Time Top 10 and fifth in the Big Sky.
Freshman
Josh Anderson finished eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 14' 7.25", tying for the eighth best vault in the Big Sky this year.
In the 100m, senior
Cory Mullanix crossed the line in 10.83 seconds, a personal best that puts him tied for ninth in the Big Sky.
Mt. SAC Relays
Idaho State sophomores
Joseph Simmons and
Joseph Petty both recorded their fastest times ever in the 10,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 19 in Torrance, California.
Simmons finished the race in seventh with a time of 30:13.72, a personal best by 38 seconds. This time puts him fifth on the All-Time ISU Top 10 and second in the Big Sky right now, Simmons is also currently 10th on the ISU Top 10 in the 5,000m as well.
Petty finished 21 seconds faster than his previous best with his time of 31:28.67, Petty's time has him ranked fifth in the Big Sky.
The Bengals had two other athletes at the meet. Junior
Jesse Allen finished the 1,500m in 3:55.71 and sophomore
Conner Oswald finished in 3:59.94. Allen is currently ranked fifth in the Big Sky in the event.
Coming Up
Idaho State will travel to Provo, Utah next week for the Robison Invitational hosted by BYU. The 2018 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships, presented by Red Lion Hotels Corporation, will be May 8-11 in Moscow, Idaho.
