POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's tennis defended the court in Reed Gym Friday afternoon taking down the Utah Tech Trailblazers 7-0.
"This was such a good home opener for us today," remarked Head Coach Gretchen Maloney. "The girls really followed their game plans they worked on their depth and consistency and cleaning up their errors. In doubles they were doing everything correct, executing well and in singles they played really clean. I felt they played very professional out there."
In the doubles matches, the Bengals had win and drama. At Doubles No. 1 Sol O'Lideadha and Lola O'Lideadha took down their opponents 6-2. On Doubles No. 2, Hana Cho and Leah Kuruvilla took care of business downing their opponents 6-2.
On Doubles No. 3, Sydney Morris and Megan Lang-Gould fell behind early to their Utah Tech Opponents. The Bengal duo dug deep and came back winning their match 6-3.
The Bengals continued their domination in the singles matches.
At No. 1 Cho put on a clinic, taking down her opponent 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2, L. O'Lideadha persevered and defeated her Trailblazer opponent 6-1, 6-3.
Lang-Gould took care of business at No. 3, downing her opponent 6-1, 6-1. S. O'Lideadha completed the sweep at No. 4 going 6-0, 6-0
Bengal newcomer Olivia Mikkelson took the win at No. 6 6-1, 6-2.
The most emotional match of the day took place at No. 5 singles. In her first match on the home court after her lower-body injury, Morris came back to defeat her opponent 6-2, 2-6, 11-9. The final tiebreaker set was a back-and-forth with Morris coming out the victor.
"This was her first home win," continued Maloney. "It was very emotional there. She dealt with some nerves during the tiebreaker but she worked through it and kept fighting."
