Pocatello, ID - The Idaho State Track and Field teams concluded the second and final day of the Snake River Open with strong performances by the Bengals across the board. After a snowstorm forced some schools to pull out of the meet. The Bengals concluded the Snake River open taking on the Weber State Wildcats and the Utah State Aggies.Â
For the Bengals, the day started off strong with graduate student Sarah Wilensky winning the women's weight throw competition with a mark of 17.56m (57'07.5"). Fellow senior Rachael Dyck finished 2nd on the afternoon with a personal best throw of 17.00m (55'9.25"). Wilensky's throw is the 69th best in the nation this season for DI.Â
In another part of the ICCU Dome, freshman Josie Settle finished 2nd in the 60mH for the pentathlon, adding another high mark to a five-event slate that included a 1st place finish in the long jump during the first day of competition.
From there, it was time for Kyndal Martin to shine.
The senior runner had entered the day with the second-fastest 60mH mark (8.53 seconds) in school history, which she set in 2023. Today, the first round of the preliminary races was all she needed to ascend to the top, setting a new ISU record with a sprint of 8.48.
Despite all the earned fanfare that comes with setting an all-time best, Martin wasn't finished. She would break her own record within the hour in the final round of the 60mH with an unprecedented 8.43, firmly placing her atop the ISU women's indoor record books. Both of Martin's runs topped the former school record that had stood since 2008. Martins time of 8.43 is the 32nd best in the NCAA this season.
The men's team put together a strong performance of their own, as Axel Tirado-Sanchez and Sergio Garcia-Jimenez both set personal bests to come first and second, respectively, in the weight throw.Â
Tirado-Sanchez, already owning the third-best throw in school history, launched a remarkable 18.46m (60'06.75") to rise to second all-time. Garcia-Jimenez recorded an impressive 17.51m (57'05.5"), which now stands as the fifth-farthest in ISU's storied T&F history.
On the track, Zachary Cox placed first in the 60mH with a mark of 8.04, while Khutsisa Rampete won the 200m in 22.31 seconds and set a personal record in the 60m at 6.95.
The Bengals return to action Jan. 19-20 in Ogden, UT at the Weber State Invitational before returning home for the Stacy Dragila Open Jan. 26
