Long Beach, CA - Idaho State Track and Field got week 4 of the outdoor season started this afternoon in California, and as they have in the past, the Bengals made their presence known to the hosts right off the bat.Â
The action began for the Orange and Black at the one-day Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State in Long Beach, which featured five top-10 marks alone on Friday.Â
The Bengals were best represented by the throwers on the first day of competition. Senior Sergio Garcia-Jimenez entered his name into the ISU Outdoor Top-10s with his performance in the hammer throw. His mark of 54.65 (179'3") now places him at 7th all-time in school history. On the women's side, Sarah Wilensky recorded a PR of 57.80m (189'7"), to further her grip on the fourth-best mark in the books.Â
Junior Kait Ward, a newcomer this year from New Mexico State, has also made her presence felt with two PRs in the hammer throw over the last three weeks. Today in Long Beach, she recorded a distance of 52.51m (172'3") and now sits at 8th all-time in ISU history.
Elsewhere in the field events, Brielle Davis expanded on her breakout indoor season in the pole vault, reaching a height of 4.06m (13'3.75") and has risen (literally) to third-best in the outdoor record books.
On the track, Mikaela Hill was a star for the Bengals, finishing with a time of 12.14 seconds in the 100m dash. This time ties her for ninth-best in school history at the event.Â
The action will continue tomorrow for the Bengals, with day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational kicking off at 7:00am PST (8:00am MST). While the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate has concluded, the Long Beach Invitational will start tomorrow at the same host school, with day one commencing at 8:30am PST (9:30am MST)Â
