Bengal Golf Opens Season at Wolverine Invitational

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's golf team wrapped up the 2024 Wolverine Invitational hosted by Utah Valley University at Talons Cove Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

The Bengals finished 10^th as a team, but showed marked improvement headed into the 2024-25 season.  

The Bengals came out hot in the first round of play on Sunday morning in Utah. Returning Bengal Lauren Aasand and newcomer Andrea Chin led the Bengal pack through the first 18.

Both Aasand and Chin shot even par scores of 72 in the first round. Aasand took advantage of birdies on three and five to keep herself at the even mark at the end of the round, and Chin, after shooting even on the front nine, added a pair of bogeys and birdies to finish with the 72.

Bengal Freshman Avery Bayer came away with a +4 76 to start the year and Sophomore Hailee Cole shot a +9 on day one.

The Bengals 301 was the 4^th lowest round by stroke in team history and showed the growth of this team headed into the season.

The following days the Bengals shot rounds of 315 and 319. Andrea Chin continued to battle with a +2 74 on day two and a final +4 76 on the closing round. Her final score of 222 is third-best all-time for the Bengals and shows serious promise for the 17-year-old Bengal Freshman.

After a slower 82 on Day two, Aasand came back on the final round, finishing with a +7 79 in round three, not giving up and improving off of her day two score.

Bengals Margaret Smock and Abbi Nelson competing as independents scored 246 and 254 respectively. Nelson had a low round of 78 (+6) on day two of the competition.

The Bengals stick around in the Mountain West next week, competing in the Kelsey Chugg Invitational hosted by Weber State at the Wolfcreek Golf Club in Eden, Utah. September 16-17.
